Moo with the Rent Crew at Pioneer Theatre Company

RENT! The musical! Playing at Pioneer Theatre Company now! Go check it out before it closes this weekend!

Okay, so… I am totally a fan of Rachel Moulton. She’s so fucking hilarious! First, in Black Comedy. Now, in Rent.

Her performance in Rent was the perfect angle for the opening night party blog. Get a sneak peak of her performance in Rent plus a few other “behind-the-scenes”-like bonuses at my guest blog for PTC: Moo for Me - Rent Opening Night Party.

Victorian Inspired Tres Leches Sponge Cake

Cinco de Mayo - Booze and chips and desserts. That’s how I like to celebrate. Okay, okay… maybe something more sustainable as well - tacos, taquitos, nachos, anything along that deliciousness. But dessert, that is the most precious…

So, flan and tres leches! Thanks to David Lebovitz, there were recipes in his book, Ready for Dessert: My Best Recipes, for both desserts that I could utilize.

*Butterscotch Flan (or in the closest online variation I found: Chocolate-Dulce de Leche Flan)

*Victorian Sponge Cake (which I could transform into tres leches)

Silver Coneheads Ride Tour de Brewtah 2011

A quick trip to Pib’s Exchange during Friday’s lunch break… Rainbow socks. Superhero costumes. Funny ties. Handcuffs. Nothing. Nothing struck a chord. No inspiration.

A run-in with Skylar… Silver. Coneheads. 10:30am. Done.

It was decided. We were going to go all out silver and have cone heads. What were we? Silver people with cone heads. No specificity. No exact definitions.

After a night at the DI (the local go-to thrift shop), an alarm-woken morning, a scramble to the hardware store, and a few hours of glistening silver to our clothes and bodies - we were finally ready to pursue our heart’s desire on the delightfully sunny Saturday it turned out to be… BEER! We were finally ready to head down to the Tour de Brewtah (late as we had planned on being there).

The Eyes Have It on Sunset Boulevard

Last week, I attended the Pioneer Theatre Company rendition of Sunset Boulevard. Opening night, baby! I had never seen the movie or musical before, but to describe it… It’s like The Graduate with sung dialogue in film noir style. Lynne Wintersteller does so well, I’m scared to step foot in her house (if I was ever invited, of course… no stalking here) for fear of coming within her grasp.

The night was a blast. Read more about it through my guest blog for PTC: http://www.pioneertheatre.org/blog/2011/05/the-eyes-have-it.html.

A Drunken Holiday Party - Wine Pairing Dinner

What’s a better way to start the four-day Thanksgiving weekend than awesome friends, wine, food and… more wine!?

Call it “holiday spirit,” “Thanks-eve,” or just a good ol’ excuse for celebration — A couple of weeks ago, while prancing about town, Alex and I decided we should do a wine pairing dinner with a few close friends. We split six of us into groups of two to take on a type of wine (red, white, sparkling/dessert) and pair it with at least 2-3 food items. It turned into quite the memorable (or not so memorable to some of us in our drunken stupor) event.

Office Potluck: Pumpkin Pie Atop Cheesecake

Last week, we had a Thanksgiving potluck at work. No. No. No. This time, we did not get all buzzed after work and go home then pass out. Honest.

From the hat (or leftover from the pieces of paper I shook about in my hand), I pulled the dessert assignment. Pumpkin pie. Done. Except… Heather doesn’t like pumpkin pie so I needed to be creative.

Surfing recipes, I decide to go with the go-to classic American dessert chef… Paula Deen. I wanted pumpkin pie. And to get it in Heather’s mouth, I disguised it with pumpkin cheesecake. Pumpkin pie atop pumpkin cheesecake! Individual servings — created by the use of a cupcake tin.

Food Tours, Raspberry Shakes, Kayaks, BBQ, Caving — Our Bear Lake Weekend Itinerary

I know. I know. It may be a sickness. Anyone that travels with me will tell you the same (although some may be a bit more discreet in their wording). Yes. I am… a planner. Theresa may still have the spreadsheet I created for our two-week Japan stint.

Ever since the Beehive Cheese Co. tour Heather and I took, I wanted to go to Logan and do more food factory tours. There’s a whole slew of food factories in Logan and Cache Valley. In fact, there’s a listing of places for the complete Cache Valley food tour.

It didn’t take too much convincing, but I was able to grab a good group of friends and hit a few factories. Oh, then we also hit up Bear Lake and the Minnetonka Cave. Beware my (over)preparedness…
